Housing For Homeless

On Friday, October 4th, 2019, the Los Angeles Times  published an editorial titled " Editorial: Here's one thing we don't need to fight homelessness: A state of emergency declaration." The editorial explains how local officials should do a better job of providing housing and shelters to the homeless.

The author does provide some arguments on why they should take more action in providing housing. the author argued that the city of Los Angeles did provide "$1.2 billion for housing for homeless and very low-income people through Proposition HHH, and more than 8,000 new units should be available in the next several years." But as the author stated, homelessness keeps increasing by sidewalks, riverbeds, and parks. The author argues that by declaring a state of emergency on homelessness is not a solution anymore, instead, the local officials should take action on helping the homeless. The author of this article should’ve provided information on how many homeless have health problems and are not able to get any help or have a home.
This article is intended for all citizens to explain how the government is helping the homeless and persuade them to believe that local officials should take action in helping the homeless. The author does support his argument by stating that the Trump administration has “turned down a request from Newsom for more housing vouchers for homeless people.”
In conclusion, there should be action on helping homeless people because at the end of the day everyone has rights. If the local officials take action in helping the homeless, it will minimize their health problems and help them have a home.
